Special Days, Big Moments, and Seasonal Fun, May is full of fun

By Jennifer Sheran, publisher Macaroni Kid McDonough, Stockbridge, Hampton, Locust Grove April 28, 2022

"May" we tell you all about the fun we'll be having this month in and around McDonough?

The month of May includes Mother's Day, the Kentucky Derby, graduations, and Memorial Day cookouts... plus much more! It's a busy month! From teacher appreciation to the last day of school and the frantic prep for summer arrangements. Don't forget to stop and smell the geraniums!

We've rounded up ten ways to make the most of May in Henry County and the surrounding areas with your family, from holidays you probably know ... to those you might not be so familiar with!

1. Celebrate teachers May 1-8

Teacher Appreciation Week is the first week in May. Celebrate by sending your child's teacher a gift they'll really love, like a gift certificate to Axe Country, Peach Born, 'stach Studio, or True Rest Float Spa. Or how about a beautiful plant from Knights Market? Or maybe some chocolate covered berries from Sweet Ashley's. Let teachers know how much they're appreciated!

2. Star Wars Day is May 4

May the fourth be with you!

3. Cinco de Mayo

In Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is a minor holiday meant to mark the day the Mexican Army beat the French Army in the 1800s. In the United States, however, the day has turned into a giant celebration of Mexican-American culture, music, and cuisine. Check out our delicious recipes for guacamole, pico de gallo, and homemade chips! Mark this holiday by enjoying some authentic Mexican cuisine with a visit to your favorite Mexican restaurant.
