FIVE HOME DÉCOR TRENDS FOR 2022

By Debbie Donaldson, REALTOR Debbie Donaldson Group, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Georgia Properties March 9, 2022

Our homes are typically our largest investment. That investment doesn’t stop with the property and house. How we furnish our rooms makes our house feel like a home. Whether you’re considering staging your home for sale or settling into a lifestyle, décor plays a role in our home’s value.

The latest interior design trends reflect the ways Americans use their homes since the pandemic.

Here are five home design trends that are sure to last:

Smart furniture  – Puffy.com predicts the smart furniture industry could reach $244 million by 2024. Smart furniture includes couches and night stands that come with charging ports and televisions double as artwork when turned off. One of the latest smart furniture innovations is coffee tables complete with refrigerator drawers. You’ll never have to leave the game to grab a cold one.

Muted but colorful décor  – Color palettes for 2022, such as those suggested by Benjamin Moore, are calling for blue, green and yellow colors on the paler side. Large florals are back and make great partners to striped or abstract fabrics.

Vintage accents  – Vintage furniture and accessories have a lot to offer. The craftsmanship and materials are of a quality that can’t be duplicated today. Curating vintage pieces in your space can add beauty and individuality. Finding vintage pieces locally is easy if you know where to look. You may want to start at Peachtree Peddlers Antique Mall on Mill Road in McDonough. The Grove Depot in Locust Grove is full of vintage and modern treasures.

Multifunctional room design  – Since the Pandemic sent millions of workers to do their jobs from home, people have seen a need for more flexible spaces. The room where you put your desk may also have an integrated workout area. Many people turned spare bedrooms into offices. As you take a fresh look at your home, are there spaces that could be rearranged to serve multiple purposes or even a new purpose?

Curved lines– Furniture and accessories with rounded edges will feel like a soft comforting cuddle, as well as provide relief from the geometric look of modern furniture. Fortunately, there are multiple home furnishing stores for every style and price range in the McDonough area. One fun favorite is Chic & Shabby with locations in McDonough and at the Tanger Outlets in Locust Grove. Hope to see you as I’m browsing for my next must-have item.
