Holiday Markets Around the McDonough Area

8 Tips for Getting the Most of Your Holiday Market Shopping

By Jennifer Sheran, publisher Macaroni Kid McDonough, Stockbridge, Hampton, Locust Grove November 10, 2021

Shopping at your favorite Holiday market can be a fun seasonal tradition and it is an excellent way to support local small businesses. Whether at a church or local business center, these markets typically feature dozens of local artists, creators and business owners with unique gift options for every family member. From homemade jams, jellies and sweets, to beautiful wood creations, hand made jewelry, and holiday decorations, there is so much to see!

It is fun to find that perfect gift for that special someone or see a creative way an every day item was repurposed into something new - like the golf clubs turned marshmallow toasters I found at a recent market I attended. Can you say firepit?

And to go with that Firepit, we found these McKinnen's Dry Craft Cocktails where you infuse your favorite alcohol with these custom flavors for  a unique drink to sip on.

Eight Tips for Shopping at a Holiday Market

  1. Wear comfortable shoes and layers - you are on your feet for a long time and it can get hot inside with lots of people in crowded booths.
  2. Bring a foldable bag that can hold several smaller bags of items you purchase - this helps keep your hands free and prevents losing something.
  3. Carry a water bottle and light snacks - saves you money when your stomach starts rumbling.
  4. If time allows, give everything a quick pass by before you decide what to spend your money on.
  5. Always get the merchant's card so you can go back and order online or contact them if there is an issue.
  6. Make a list of people you are buying for and ideas of things to look for. It is easier to search when you have someone specific in mind - teachers, nieces, nephews, aunts, children, neighbors, hostesses you will see over the season.
  7. Ask yourself, do I have something like this already? Do I have a place for this? How often would I wear/use this? I always love to look at the scarfs, but really how many do I need?
  8. Bring friends and make it a moms morning out! Stop for lunch or a glass of wine on the way home and rest those feet.
