Local Second Grader Leads Community Food & Toy Drive

By Shana Thornton, Producer/On-Air Talent of Let's Talk America Radio December 17, 2019

In an effort to support area families, Henry County 2nd grader Treandos Thornton is leading his own food and toy drive for the holiday season. Thornton is the Founder and President of the kid operated business T&N Bow Ties and Apparel. This marks the 4th year that the kid entrepreneur has led the annual food and toy drive. All collected items will go to the United Food Force, Inc, which assists thousands of people each year by providing food and additional services. Area businesses and local students are helping Treandos out this year.

"I want to assist those in need in the community, " said 8-year-old Treandos Thornton. "Kids should have toys to enjoy. All people should have enough to eat. I don't want anyone going hungry. I invite everyone to help us out." "We are honored to help Treandos and his brother out with the food and toy drive, " said Sonjii Monroe, Owner of Speaking Pieces Boutique of McDonough. "My clothing boutique has participated for the last 3 years and it means a lot to be able to help give back this holiday season. I have customers coming in donating both non-perishable food items and toys. This is an important community initiative and I hope community members join us in our efforts."

Thornton's younger 4-year-old brother,  Noah, is helping out as well. The annual food and toy drive collected 1,800 plus nonperishable food items and toys over the past 3 years. The team at T&N Bow Ties and Apparel believes that style can have a purpose which can help boost the confidence of young men and women throughout all communities. 2nd grader Treandos is on a personal mission to help people in various ways. He was recognized with his own official day in the City of McDonough and listed as "Top 25 Under 25" for Atlanta Metro.

There are 4 community organizations participating this year as public drop-off locations for Thornton’s food and toy drive. Students at Dutchtown Elementary School are participating in the holiday drive as well. The food and toy drive is taking place now through December 31, 2019.
